Jesse Morris was a Principal in the Electricity Practice of the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI). Jesse's primary focus at RMI was to partner with utilities, technology providers, developers, and regulatory stakeholders to help distributed energy resources become an integral, widely-accessible part of the global electricity system. Jesse’s research, convening, and consulting work focused on understanding the fundamental economics of distributed energy resources and their ability to provide a wide variety of services to the grid through regulatory change and new business models. Over the past several years, he and his colleagues have researched and published in detail RMI’s findings on the economics of battery storage, advanced demand response technologies, and solar plus storage systems in addition to helping large corporates build new business models focused on the grid-edge.

As a Visiting Research Fellow with Next Generation, Jesse is focused on helping California's transportation system dramatically reduce oil use, providing a model for other state's across the U.S. to follow. Transforming a transportation system from one based on oil and single-passenger vehicle travel to a system that revolves around electric vehicles and multi-modal transportation is no small task. But addressing the equity and environmental justice-related issues that come along with such a transformation is even more challenging. Accordingly, Jesse, along with his colleagues at Next Generation, are specifically focused on bringing low-income Californians into the advanced transportation fold through targeted policies and regulatory actions.
