The Internet.Foundation (The IF) is a trans-Atlantic NGO dedicated to promoting universal digital rights as a natural extension of human rights and the sustainable use of personal data in commerce. The IF pioneered the call for a Universal Declaration of Digital Rights and leads the development of this initiative with the UN, leading think tanks and consumer rights groups around the world. In parallel The IF also leads the Clean Data Charter, an initiative to establish a self-regulating framework for how enterprises and brands should responsibly use consumers’ personal data in a fair, sustainable and mutually equitable manner. The IF partnered with the British Standards Institute to create an Ethical Data Standard published in 2019 as part of the BSI's Big Data Standard BS 10102 which remains the international gold standard for the ethical use of data in commerce.
