Dave is a coder with an interest in computer security. He's founded, built and sold several companies. He's a co-author of the Blockmania consensus protocol, a fast, leaderless PBFT variant, and the Chainspace protocol for sharding blockchains. He worked on (and wrote the book on) the open-source Scalatra microframework, used to build parts of NetFlix, the BBC's Linked Data project, and McLaren's high-speed timeseries data store. Previously, as CTO at a London-based agile software consultancy, he led major development projects for many large organisations and startups. Dave approaches technology with a combination of childlike enthusiasm and grown-up cynicism. He has a keen interest in organizations and institutions, and the interplay between social structures and software.
